Oh yes. Its that time of year again. You see all the little children running around with their halloween costumes on, all of the randomly pumpkin flavored foods that are here for a "limited time only," elections are happening, the leaves fall (sort of), and everyone starts counting down the days until thanksgiving break and the winter holidays.
Unless of course you are a high school senior applying to college.
The college application process is a stress-inducing nightmare for everyone ages 16 and up. It all starts junior year when you take far too many AP classes to try and make up for the fact that you tried to have a social life as an underclassman. How naïve you were back then right? So you have less sleep than you thought possible and facebook becomes your new best procrastination buddy.
After the stresses and work of junior year you think you are done. Oh but you are wrong. During the summer (August 1st) the commonapp goes online and you have to write your essay! Oh yea, and don't forget to volunteer at an animal shelter and a hospital while still having a summer job and working on your essay. At this point you start to think "friends? what are those?" but don't worry... senior year will be great!
No.
Senior year starts off with more work than junior year plus the added bonus of college applications. This also shows the beginnings of Senioritis: a disease that is incurable. After 4 long years of high school, the last thing that seniors want is to have more work than the past three years combined with the stress of having to impress everyone with where they are going to school. At this time it is not unusual to see a senior from time to time crying about college or stress because there is so much pressure on them to do everything.
So while most people went out on Halloween and had fun, most of the seniors stayed home and worked on their applications because the deadline for early decision (for them) was November 1st. Their last Halloween at home will forever be remembered as the "Stanford application" day.
Now if you excuse me I have to go work on my application essay. Again.
